This is not a patent, it is a patent application. Reading it I really hope they will not get a patent for what they claim! It is common knowledge as far as I can understand. Assume they would get the patent! A ridiculus situation would occur where they could claim royalties for a lot of ethanol mixtures they have not invented.

Yes you are right and I totally agree with you that it would be very odd if these mixes could be patented.

Here another patenta applicatio of something we discussed, an onboard ethanol di-etyl ether converter, but for diesel engines:

It is surprise to me how little information could be found in Internet about ethanol cold start improvement by adding high volatility solvents. By comparing different sources there are basically following possibilities to get the same or higher vapor pressure as E85 fuel (summer blend 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline):

1. E100+10% nitromethane
2. E100+15% isobutane (butane)
3. E100+5% dimethylether (DME)
4. E100+5% pentane (n or iso-pentane)
5. E100+2% petroleum ether

As you remember I was very excited about diethylether as additive. After reading about high volatility additives theory (thanks to Obormot and his book!) I know diethylether does not work because of very good solubility in ethanol even at low temperatures.
Mix number to with butane quite well explains Obormot experiment with 5% and 10% butane at -2 C.
I picked up from this list additives which are liquid at room temperature and very little percentage should be added. I will get in the beginning of next year few liters of pentane to experiment with. But I have problem with petroleum ether. Petroleum ether has different grades by boiling points 20-40 C, 40-60, 60-80 ect. I can immediately get fraction 40-60 C but I was thinking more about the first one 20-40 C. Could someone please who knows more about petroleum ether give some tips what to do?

It is not enough to compare the vapour pressures! You also have to take into account what is in the vapour since different compunds have different lower bounds of flammability. Ethanol itself is only a minor part of the vapour at low temperatures. See the diagram here.

i will find out the prices.

Example 9 Cold Start for Ethanol (E100) and Petroleum Ether

To an E100 fuel can be added 1.0% by weight of petroleum ether as a volatility agent. The fuel can then be supplied to an internal combustion engine (spark ignited or compression ignited) and combusted in the engine. The volatility agent will decrease the time needed to achieve positive torque or disengaging the starter motor in the engine relative to the time needed to achieve positive torque or disengaging the starter motor in the same engine when combusting a comparable fuel of ethanol but without the volatility agent. By this method the cold start performance of the engine is improved.

Example 3 Cold Start for Gasoline, Ethanol and Petroleum Ether

A fuel formulation can be prepared by blending commercial gasoline and ethanol in a ratio to achieve 85% ethanol (aka E85). To this fuel blend can be added 10.0% by weight of petroleum ether as a volatility agent. The fuel can then be supplied to an internal combustion engine (spark ignited or compression ignited) and combusted in the engine. The volatility agent will decrease the time needed to achieve positive torque or disengaging the starter motor in the engine relative to the time needed to achieve positive torque or disengaging the starter motor in the same engine when combusting a comparable fuel of gasoline and ethanol but without the volatility agent. By this method the cold start performance of the engine is improved.

I think there is an error in first fuel composiiition - 10%, not 1,0%
