hej Folks,

a friend told me that he has coverted his 945 B230FT with a ECU of a B230FB.

this ECU is from the non-turbo charged engine with 131 PS (HP) / 95kW and has the Bosch # 0 280 000 935.

in mine there is the 937 ECU.

he told me that the 935 ECU is optimized for the 210 ccm injectors and has a further regulation field, so using this ECU in my car with 310 ccm injectors will be a conversion for E85!!

has anyone some experience with this ECU or heard about it?

has anyone a used ECU for me?

Seems to be a good idea!
Don't know if anyone tested it already.
The N/A ECU should be cheap and easy to find in the scrapyards at least.

Those ECUs (and also the ...932, used on B200FT in Italy) are identical except for the software. So it would anyway be easy "cloning" ...935 ECUs by copying the eprom (a standard 27256 or 26C256 part which is supported by most eprom programmers).
It would be interesting to know if there are several different software versions in the ...935. The only one i have encountered is 2 287 357 397 (marking on the label of the eprom, the four last digits can also be found in the binary file).
Only the tables (mapping) is different from the software for ...932, which is 2 283 357 854.

the main problem is really to get an ECU !!

a new one is about 2500 SEK - 200 €, at electro-bay there is none. :(

my volvo garage has none, here are only a few scrapyards in a circle of 50km, and no one has such an ECU....

Maybe then the simplest way of testing this conversion is to make an eprom with the software for the ...935 and try it out in your ECU. If you have access to an eprom programmer, then this is a simple affair.

no, i do not have any access to an eprom writer, and i don't know anyone who can do this.

and if the eprom was killed? then the car even won't run any more.....no no

You should not reprogram the original eprom of your ECU, just set it away in a safe place.

The type of eprom used in LH 2.4 is a very common one (27256 or 27C256), it can be found, for example, in old computers, modems, fax machines, satellite tv receivers...just about any microprocessor controlled electronics from the late 80's to mid 90's that is now going to recycling. So it is no problem at all getting another eprom to program with the software that you are about to try out.

Then the only problem for you is to get the eprom written.
One possibility would be if you can get in touch with people at a technical university or any company which has been in the communication radio business since the 80's.

Why not import this in Sweden very common ECU?
Have a look here:
www.bildelsbasen.se
Make a search for the P/N.

Or maybe the simplest way of solving the problem is that i write an eprom and send it to Berti?

hej Torbjorn,

i cannot assess if it is the solution for my "problem" ;) because i do not know if i'm able to change the eprom. is that a big problem??

hej Karl,

i guess i must look for an ECU for a 5-drive manual transmission box, like my car has.
the price is between 1250 and 3000 SEK, that is in € divided by 10, nearly the price that i have to pay here......if any scrapyard has one

i have asked two volvo garages, none has an ECU

No, that is very simple.

The eprom is fitted in a socket on all LH 2.4 ECUs for Volvo, changing it is just a matter of prying it up carefully with two small screwdrivers and then pressing the new one down in the socket (exactly the same way as changing the BIOS eprom of an old computer prior to the flash BIOS era). In some cases, a plastic retainer is fitted above the eprom and then it must be pried away first.

You should take some precautions against ESD (electrostatic discharge), the same as when you are working on internal parts of a computer, but now in summer with relatively high humidity in the air, ESD is not a big problem. A rule-of-thumb is that when the RH is above 60 %, no ESD precautions are needed at all, between 40 and 60 % only very simple precautions are needed, and if it is below 40 %, then it is better to avoid working with ESD sensitive components unless one has good knowledge on the subject.

oh, i see :) no using of a soldering iron :D

the work you discribed seams to be really easy, and working on a computers hardware is not unknown to me...... i assembled my daughters computer, repaired the pc of my sister-in-law, and assembled some computers in the office i work.

the ECU is on the co-drivers site in the lower area on the right, correct? behind the plastic or carpet....

Ok, you are on the right way :)

Yes, the ECU is somewhere at the right side, i think you will have to remove the plastic side panel to access it.

is that writing very difficult?
do you have an eprom or must i look for one and send it?

at last: how much is that eprom and your work? the shipping is about 10€, i think... am i right?
